Every child is unique, right? How often do we get caught up in making them conform to the norm? My son is hyperactive. He is also very, let me emphasize VERY smart.
He is in choir and they had their first performance Sunday night. He did excellent at practice, and I was so excited, because my mom was coming to watch and I was also singing that night. Well, time came to do his 3 songs, and he got up there, and, along with all the preschoollers, he sang all of them, movements and all, without missing a beat. Now, what was different about his performance within the group songs, was that as all the others were doing their songs at the same time, my sone, had put his right leg 3 steps up, behind his body, and his left foot on the correct step. The first son was "He's got the whole World in His hands". And my mom and I were motioning to him (we were on the front row) to put his feet together. As he looked out at us, he looked so proud, paid no attention, and gave thumbs up and kept on singing, and doing the motions! I then whispered to my mom "the next song involves feet and hands, he'll surely stand on one step". So, they began "I'm in the Lord's Army". He did the entire song on the same steps as before. He marched by hopping back and forth on one leg, then the other, he galoped in the calvary, on steps 3 apart, and flew the same, o'er the enemy. Now, I finally stopped telling him to do it 'right'. He did everything right...but his own way. He didn't bother anyone, and in the end showed himself to be even more skilled than the rest lol.
Jeremiah 1
4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
6 "Ah, Sovereign LORD,"
I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."
7 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.'
You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.
8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.
God gave Connor these talents for a reason, and who am I to stifle them? He is a natural born leader, and recently told me he wants to be a teacher. I want to be here to mold those creative ideas and energies, rather than say "DOn't do it like THAT!!!" What if the Lord calls him to Preach? That energy on stage could be used for His glory, and my negative voice could do damage. Use your words for encouragement.
